How To Quantize In Ableton Live

Finding the best sample editor for Ableton can be a challenging task. As far as live performance is concerned, “Sampler” is a clear winner. But Ableton’s native features may be all you need if you’re only looking to edit your audio.Does Ableton Have A Sampler? When talking about sample editing inside Ableton Live 11, there are two ways to go about it. First, you can edit audio natively in Ableton’s clip View. Here you can crop or trim the sample, adjust the start and end points, time-stretch (or warp as Ableton calls it), and automate various parameters (for example, the gain to change the dynamics of the sample). You can even quantize the transients of an audio clip’s sample to sync it to the host bpm or change the time signature. The other way is to load up one of Ableton’s streamlined sampling instruments, “Simpler” or “Sampler.” Doing it this way gives you more options from a musical point of view since it basically turns a sample into an instrument by letting you trigger the sample via MIDI and pitching it up or down based on the MIDI note being played. This contrasts with Ableton’s “Drum Rack” instrument, which triggers individual samples based on the midi note. For example, with Simpler or Sampler, the same sound will play with an increasingly higher pitch, much like an acoustic piano as you play notes up the keyboard. On the other hand, with a Drum Rack, a different sample will play on each piano key. Today Avid have released Pro Tools 2022.6. This update includes new features and workflow improvements for mixing and production with enhancements for video and users working in Dolby Atmos. These new features are:Sends Default Level PreferenceIn previous versions of Pro Tools newly created sends were created at unity unless the preference “sends default to -INF” was checked in the Mixing tab of the Pro Tools Preferences. The new Sends Default Level Preference allows you to set any default value from -144dB to +12dB, the default setting is -INF, a useful timesaver as -INF is always going to be too quiet and unity is very often too loud. Now you can choose your own default.Docked MIDI Editor OptionThe Docked MIDI editor is overlooked by many, with the Floating MIDI editor being the more commonly used option. This is probably because the options presented in the MIDI Preferences for what happens when you double-click a MIDI clip offers a choice of (floating) MIDI editor, Score editor, MIDI event list or Name dialog but the Docked MIDI editor hasn’t been an option in this Prefs drop down or in the right-click contextual menu. The Docked MIDI editor is now listed in these options. When you are ready to close the docked MIDI editor use the shortcut Control+Opt+Shift+= (Start+Alt+Shift+= on PC).Quantize EnhancementsThe Audio/MIDI Quantize dialogue previously offered note values with dotted and triplet alternatives and various Groove presets. This has been updated with an option to follow the value selected in the Bars|Beats Grid. This is a timesaver as previously you had to open the Quantize window to change the quantize value. Since the grid can also be changed using the shortcuts Shift + -/+, you can change the quantize value and then quantize without using your mouse. Quantize Follow Bars and Beats This is complemented by a workflow enhancement where MIDI quantise is applied to selected MIDI notes without necessarily having to open the Quantize Event Operations window. To Quantize without opening the Quantize dialogue hit CMD+Opt+0 on a Mac or Ctrl+Alt+0 on a PC.Auto-expanding Grid/Nudge displayIn previous Pro Tools versions, the MIDI

(default)Overflow mode for fixed-point operations. Overflow mode is a read-only parameter. Fixed-point numbers wrap around on overflow.Accumulator Data Type — Accumulator data type Binary point scaling (default)Accumulator data type description. This parameter is read-only, with value Binary point scaling. The block defines the fixed-point data type using the Accumulator Signed, Accumulator Word length, and Accumulator Fraction length parameters.Accumulator Signed — Signed or unsigned accumulator data format Signed (default)This parameter is read-only. All output is signed format.Accumulator Word length — Accumulator word length 16 (default) | integer Units are in bits. This value must include the sign bit. If you clear the Quantize phase parameter, then Accumulator word length determines the LUT size. For HDL code generation, the LUT size must be between 2 and 217 entries. When you select Enable look up table compression method, this parameter must be an integer in the range [5,21]. When you clear Enable look up table compression method, this parameter must be an integer in the range [3,19]. For more information on how this parameter affects the LUT size, see the Algorithms section. When you select the Quantize phase parameter, there is no limit to the Accumulator word length parameter value. Accumulator Fraction length — Accumulator fraction length 0 (default) | integer This parameter is read-only. The accumulator fraction length is zero bits. The accumulator operates on integers. If the phase increment is fixdt type with a fractional part, the block returns an error. Quantize phase — Quantize accumulated phase off (default) | on When you select Quantize phase, the block quantizes the result of the phase accumulator to a fixed bit-width. The block uses this quantized value to select a waveform value from the lookup table. Quantizing the output of the phase accumulator enables you to reduce the lookup table size without lowering
