Early spring is a hard time to air a prestige TV show, especially an HBO show that airs on Sunday nights. The Last of Us is learning this lesson the hard way, with Episode 5 airing February 12, Super Bowl Sunday, and Episode 9, the series finale, airing March 12, the same night as the Academy Awards. Thankfully, HBO announced that they’re taking preemptive action to counteract the first conflict: in an unprecedented move, The Last of Us Episode 5 will be available for streaming on HBO Max Friday, February 10 at 9:00 pm, two days before it’s scheduled to hit airwaves. It’s a smart move, and HBO should do it again. Episode 5 will still air on Sunday for fans who prefer stealth takedowns to touchdowns, but it will be old hat by that point for HBO Max subscribers. Variety noted that House of the Dragon, the last big Sunday night HBO drama, gathered two-thirds of its viewership from HBO Max. By making the episode available early, viewers don’t have to choose between watching the biggest live sporting event of the year or watching the latest installment of an ongoing hit series. Jan. 26 (UPI) — The ever-popular Puppy Bowl XIX is returning to the airwaves, but this year will be simulcast across four channels. The annual show three-hour show featuring rescue pups highlights the work of rescue, shelter and animal workers across the country. This year’s event includes 122 puppies from 67 shelters across 34 states.This is the first year a Native American rescue will be featured along with a puppy player from the island nation of Dominica. The 11 dogs with special needs who can be adopted include Julius a Dalmatian, who is hearing-impaired, Marmalade, a sight and hearing-impaired border collie/Australian cattle dog and Mykonos, an American Staffordshire terrier/bulldog who has a cleft palate.The Puppy Bowl is the annual animal competition, which is a precursor to the Super Bowl. It airs on Feb. 12, starting with a pre-game show at 1 p.m. EST. While that big questions has been answered, though, there are many more that still require a response.As well as the aforementioned concerns around HBO Max content, when and where the service will be rolled out, and how much it'll cost, there are doubts about how this super streamer will impact deals that WBD has with other streaming services globally.For one, there's the question of how it might impact the HBO Originals that are shown on Sky Atlantic in the UK. Popular TV shows including The Last of Us, House of the Dragon, and Euphoria are broadcast exclusively on Sky Atlantic on British shores, thanks to a four-year licensing deal between HBO and Sky that allows the latter to show these series (and many more) in the UK.That deal is due to expire this year, but it's expected that Sky and HBO will renew the agreement.
