Islands of Nyne Release HYPE!!!!! - YouTube
Dead, but given another chance - Nyne lives The ferocious battle royale that is the genre itself claims yet another - futuristic last-man-standing shooter Islands Of Nyne is ending production after just a few months in early access. In a sad statement on Steam, developers Define Human Studios say they just can't afford to continue and are pulling the plug on production, but keeping the servers online for the immediate future. The game is now free, and the developers are looking into allowing players to host their own servers once the official servers shut down. Grab the game free here, and take a look at some highlights from its early access peak below. Our last man standing Fraser Brown took a poke around Islands Of Nyne back in July, and came away generally impressed with its polished presentation, despite it not being his sort of shooter. Admittedly, it's not mine either - I like my firefights slow and heavyweight. Despite the Crysis nanosuit aesthetic on show, it's effectively a faster, twitchier Plunkbat, with a variety of contemporary weapons dressed up in slick black and red future-hex camo. Its biggest concession to its sci-fi setting is bounce pads and no fall damage, so you can bound through the air with relative ease.Watch on YouTubeIt all seems like a perfectly solid competitive shooter, released at a time when everyone on the market is releasing similarly solid multiplayer games, and a pair of giants utterly dominate the market. The fact that it struggled and started losing players not long after launch isn't surprising, but that doesn't make it any less sad. I applaud Define Human for opting to make the game free instead of just pulling the plug outright. The chance of player-run servers appearing later should ensure that the game lives on and is well preserved for some time to come - fingers crossed.Define Human are also offering refunds to anyone who bought the game recently - if you picked it up after November 29th, either on Steam or direct from the studios, you're eligible for a refund. Sadly, those who picked it up earlier in the year don't have that option, but that's one of the risks of early access. I offer my condolences to the developers, and hope that their next project, whatever it may be, turns out better for them.Islands Of Nyne: Battle Royale is now free here on Steam. The cancellation announcement and refund details can be found here.

Sequel to Archipelago of Eyght The battle royales are breeding out of control, but I can at least admit the latest to be spawned is a fetching-looking beast. Islands of Nyne, due out this July from the interestingly named Define Human Studios is yet another last-man-standing FPS, but this time with a bit of a future-war edge, packed with fighters looking like they've just wandered in from Crysis. Judging by the trailer within, however, its sci-fi aspirations may only run skin deep. So, it's Plunkbat with a slight sci-fi twist, and no third-person view. I say 'slight' because as great as it sounds on paper (advanced future suits, an arena built by aliens, etc), the weapons still seem to be immediately familiar modern-day designs given a futuristic lick of paint. You've got bog-standard SMGs, your assault rifles with red dot sights, your snipey snipeguns, pistols of various sizes and shapes and shotguns that make satisfying boom noises. At least there are bounce pads, as you can see in the trailer below.Watch on YouTubeIn all honestly, it doesn't look bad - a little more slick and readable than many battle royale shooters, but I am genuinely disappointed to see such a familiar arsenal of weapons, albeit with some glowy red LEDs stuck on. I know folks like their tacticool red dot sights, but I'd love to see a battle royale with an entirely more esoteric arsenal. Give me highly-telegraphed X-ray beams, ricocheting plasma spread guns and maybe even the occasional spider-mine thatEarly Access: Islands of Nyne (Islands of Nyne
The File menuIsland and Tile namingAs part of starting work on nested groups, you can now rename Islands and Tiles. They don't carry into, i.e. Painter yet, but that's coming.ImprovementsThe Rizom-Lab team are super happy about this release! Not only have we implemented a new display engine under the hood, but we've come one big step closer to the Holy UV Mapping grail, namely real copying of UV island topology - TopoCopy. In addition, we've added a few other new features we hope you will like! Check it out!Simplified Packing OptionsWe've made packing easier. We've simplified the UI and made it dropdown based. Accuracy still means the quality of the pack, ranging from Low to Ultra, but now you can run Mutations by power of 2, starting at 1, and all the way up to 16236. As always, remember that if you have thousands of tiny islands or loose polys, don't go Ultra and max mutations, as it won't bring much of a benefit, try sticking to Higher and a median range of mutations instead! For a quick look, check the video below at the 0:42 markLocking LogicWe've changed the Locking Logic. In previous versions up to this one, Locking only affected packing. No more. It now locks everything from scaling to rotating, unwrapping or optimising. This change in logic finalised the improvements we've made to the locking function, starting with locked islands not being packed when selected. Please remember to turn off AutoFit if you want your locked islands or. Offshore territories. The Ashmore and Cartier Islands and the Coral Sea Islands have independent entries. (Norfolk and Macquarie Islands already had their own entries.)The Colombian department of "San Andrés, Providencia, and Santa Catalina" has been moved to the West Indies.South Africa's "Prince Edward and Marion Islands" have their own entry in the Indian Ocean. The Netherlands Antilles have been divided in two. The West Indies portion comprises Sint Maarten, Sint Eustatius, and Saba. The South American portion includes Bonaire and Curaçao. (Aruba left the Netherlands Antilles in 1986, and is its own country in the Kingdom of the Netherlands).Spain's "exclaves" of Ceuta and Melilla have been moved moved into Africa. All of this is more geographically accurate, to be sure, but it made calculating a full country list much harder. To fix this, I've added a slew of "magic" locations:Australia (with dependent territories)Chile (with offshore islands)China (with administrative regions)Colombia (with Caribbean islands)United Kingdom (with dependent territories)United States (with dependent territories)Ecuador (with Galapagos)France (with Overseas Territories)New Zealand (with Tokelau)Portugal (with Azores and Madeira)Spain (with Canary Islands, Ceuta, and Melilla)Norway (with Bouvet Island and Svalbard)Finland (with Åland Islands)Kingdom of DenmarkKingdom of the NetherlandsSouth Africa (with Prince Edward and Marion Islands)You can find the full definition of each of these in the online manual.Checklist improvementsLots of checklists have been cleaned up in this release. In particular, I've finished manually verifying and setting rarity status checklists for all of North America (including Central America and the West Indies), making this the third completed continent (after South America and Africa); this required corrections to:All of the Canadian provinces and territoriesNicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, Belize, and Greenland(Whenever I tackle this, I tend to find some humorous mistakes. This time the winner came from the El Salvador checklist, which was missing Great Blue Heron - and instead had Great-billed Heron, which would be an impressive range extension from southeast Asia!)I've also reconciled the checklists (setting "rarity" status and adding/removing species as needed) for:Portugal (removing birds recorded only on the Azores or Madeira)Spain (removing birds found only recorded from the Canary Islands or Ceuta and Melilla)FranceBelgiumGreeceAustraliaNew ZealandSocotra IslandSeychellesNetherlands AntillesFaroe IslandsMadeiraAzoresAnd there are brand new checklists for:Heard Island and MacDonald IslandsMacquarie IslandEaster IslandJuan Fernandez Island (and its endemics removed from Chile)CuraçaoBonaireNiueSvalbard and Jan MayenSaint Pierre et MiquelonCoral Sea IslandsAshmore and Cartier IslandsThere's additional, smaller fixes in southern Africa, the Indian Ocean, Costa Rica, and Peru.Fixed bugsI've fixed a couple of.
